Samhain is a Gaelic celebration which marks the start of the ‘darker half’ of the year. It takes place at the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter, traditionally with great gatherings and feasts.
The long-table Samhain supper will mark the launch of Five March’s new winter menu, giving guests the opportunity to gather over a seasonal feast and be the first to taste the best bits from the menu, paired exquisitely with drinks prepared by Five March’s head bartender, David Anderson (@home_sweet_spirits), using spirits and liqueurs by Edinburgh Gin.
The menu includes:
• Freedom Bakery sourdough, brie de meux, hot honey
Edinburgh Gin The Classic, melon, hot honey, lemon
• Squash & nduja croquette
Gorgonzola salad, nashi pear, bitter leaves, pickled celery, walnut
Edinburgh Gin Elderflower, camomile, soda
• Bream crudo, carrot & ginger aquachile, radish, kumquat
Edinburgh Gin Seaside, vermouth, lemon
• Confit duck leg, spiced cherry, braised chicory, shiso
Pumpkin caponata, burratina, pinenuts, sage
Spuds, aioli
Edinburgh Gin Cannonball, raspberry, yuzu, tonic
• Burnt honey panna cotta, roast figs, white balsamic
Edinburgh Gin Strawberry & Pink Peppercorns, strawberry aperitif, citrus shrub
There will also be a vegetarian menu available.
Joanna Nethery, owner of Five March, says: “Five March was built upon the ethos of sharing good food in a warm, welcoming and laid back environment. And there’s no better time to do this than when it’s starting to get a little colder and a little darker outside. Samhain felt like the perfect way to celebrate this, bringing together people - strangers and friends - to share an evening of feasting, drinking and music to help us wind down into winter.
We’re so excited to be working with Edinburgh Gin on this one - a brand whose playful yet sophisticated spirits effortlessly reflect our own ethos here at Five March. It’s going to be an evening to remember!”
The team at Edinburgh Gin added: “In celebration of Samhain, Edinburgh Gin has partnered with Five March to showcase the wonder of our award-winning range. Each course is paired with a bespoke gin serve, designed to highlight our signature botanicals from the coastal characteristics of Seaside Gin to the bold intensity of Cannonball and the delicate floral notes of Elderflower. This five-course dining experience reflects Edinburgh Gin’s commitment to creativity, seasonality and the craft of distillation.
Together with Five March’s seasonal dishes, this experience captures the essence of autumn: vibrant, comforting and deeply flavourful.”
Five March’s Samhain celebration costs £65 per person, including drinks, and will take place across two sittings on Sunday 9th November 2025, with one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Bookings are essential and can be made via: www.sevenrooms.com
There will be a regular and a vegetarian menu available. Other dietaries cannot be catered for on this occasion.
