The oldest bar and restaurant in Glasgow unveils spectacular makeover
Sloans, has unveiled a spectacular festive transformation following a £300,000 investment that has reinvented the 228-year-old venue inside and out.

Built in 1797 and bought by itison entrepreneur Oli Norman in 2006, Sloans has been restored, refurbished and reimagined as one of the city centre’s must-visit Christmas destinations. The new makeover includes a complete festive overhaul of the Grand Ballroom, Bar and Courtyard - blending the venue’s historic character with modern, immersive Christmas design.
The makeover forms part of a wider Christmas programme of over 100 festive events at Sloans being delivered this season, including Sloans’ legendary Ceilidhs, The Wee Ceilidh, Eat Film movie nights and a new show for adults only, Mrs Claus Naughty Singalong show.
Outside, there’s a magical new look for the courtyard, where the Mac Shack will dish up Sloans’ legendary macaroni pies, pigs in blankets and sweet treats like s’mores and marshmallows for toasting – all wrapped in afairy-lit backdrop made for unforgettable festive nights.
Speaking about the transformation, owner Oli Norman said: “It’s a genuine honour to look after a building that’s been part of Glasgow since 1797 and hopefully do it proud. When I bought Sloans in 2006 it was derelict and at risk of falling apart. To see it now is incredibly special.”
Just off Buchanan Street, the newly transformed Sloans offers festive dining, parties, and drinks in the city centre’s most beautiful courtyard alongside a packed programme of events for friends, families, and colleagues throughout December.
