An artist, icon painter and mentor to many students.
The theme is "Glorious creation, beloved creation: all loved and equal".
Basia “I wanted to express how I feel about the place that animals often have in our lives and how important is to me to talk about our relationship”.
The inspiration for this theme came from the story of a horse Saint Boy that was in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The horse that was abused in the games.
Each icon in the Exhibition will celebrate the creation of every living being and will bring awareness to love being a core of everyone and everything. Every being has the right to be themselves.
There will be the original icon available at the exhibition and prints of the icon. Basia decided to include the story of the Saint Boy with each image. But also include signs of a horse being in distress. Body language of a horse in distress. So maybe when you see a horse that is struggling or is not happy with what's going on you can react.
She will donate a portion of every sale to the project of Marta Sikorska that works with horses very differently. She also educates horses as sentient beings.
Here is what she says about her project:
"Pasikonie is a sanctuary for a small herd of nine horses run by an NGO that goes by the same name. The 3 ha area is based in central Poland and gives the herd just a tiny bit of wilderness they were born to explore. Horses spend 24h outdoors with free access to hay, plants, trees in a forest, herbs and the company of numerous birds. Here we try to understand horses better and understand how much our ways of life altered theirs. By offering retreats and education programs we invite people to approach the communication gap humans created by domesticating horses and using them for almost 6000 years without any concern for their agenda, their needs and their wellbeing. It’s time to make up for the time we have lost and learn what we can while we still have the time we can share with other species on this planet. By supporting Basia’s cause you will support creating a track system for the herd in Pasikonie - a special arrangement of horses’ environment in which they follow tracks with various types of surface, with engaging activities that tap into their species-specific potential. The track will benefit the welfare of the herd but also the learning possibilities for people coming to learn and heal. Thank you!"
At the Exhibition, we will show traditional icons, contemporary icons (more personal works) and very personal pieces.
Basia will also be doing small demonstrations of the process of icon painting. All works will be for sale. There will be original works and prints, including prints on wood.
All are welcome. If you want to let me know that you will be coming and arrange to make sure I will be at the exhibition when you come please contact me at edinburghicons@gmail.com or 07565144722
I will also be doing an online walk of the exhibition. It will be live and recorded on the Edinburgh School of Icon Painting Facebook Page.
The Exhibition will be held at Woodlands International Methodist Church Glasgow and it is a part of the COP26 events.
