The City Nature Challenge is an annual international wildlife recording competition between hundreds of city regions around the world. From 29 April to 2 May participants are encouraged to record and upload images or videos of wildlife in their garden or local greenspace using the iNaturalist app. All you need is a phone with a camera!
The app uses recognition software to help identify whatever species of wildlife you record but there are also a number of experts on the app who can help confirm what you have found. This year, Scotland has two competing city regions - Greater Glasgow and Greater Edinburgh - which between them include all of the central belt.
You can take part in the challenge on your own or with your family by simply creating an iNaturalist account here: uk.inaturalist.org or by checking out the RSPB Glasgow Twitter and Facebook pages. There you will find information on events taking place in Glasgow and Edinburgh, including Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum and Lauriston Ago-Ecology Farm in Edinburgh.
It is a great opportunity to champion your local wildlife and take part in a fun activity with the family. So get involved!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
