Artist Joy Bain travelled to Berneray in North Uist to photograph the Machair, as source material for her oil paintings.
The Machair is found along the western and northern coastline of the Uists, formed behind the dune ridge from wind blown shell-sand that has created a fertile, low lying plain.
Machair is not a single habitat type: it is a complex mosaic of sand dune, coastal grassland, dune slack and marsh, created over thousands of years by human settlement and agriculture.
The unusual assemblage of plants and the sheer density of flowers they produce make the Machair botanically fascinating as well as beautiful.
The Bet low Trust funded this exhibition and it's sponsored by Rock Rose Gin, made in Thurso.
Aidan McEoin will be reciting his poems about the sea at the opening event.
