About Selected 12

Listed Under Film Events

Selected 12 is a collection of diverse, surprising, and provocative new films by early career artists: Sarah Gonnet, Sophie Hoyle, Jessy Jetpacks, Seo Hye Lee, April Lin, Laura Lulika, Jennifer Mehigan and Ker Wallwork. The 8 artists were selected by Adham Faramawy and Guy Oliver (shortlisted artists for the 2021 Film London Jarman Award), FLAMIN and videoclub to bring a thought-provoking touring programme celebrating diverse filmmaking talent to screens across the UK.

Laura Lulika in conversation
Artist Laura Lulika will be in conversation with videoclub's director, Jamie Wyld following the screening to talk about their film and work. Lulika is the maker of 'A leak, a draft, a mold, a flame', which appears in the Selected 12 programme.

Laura Lulika is a chronically sick and disabled queer artist, working predominantly with video, sound, writing and performance. Their practice explores themes of care, sexuality, labour, sickness and performativity in the everyday. Lulika’s work is inspired by that which is available to them when they spend long periods housebound, such as popular and digital culture as well as domestic spaces and local communities. They strive to work in interdependent formats which reflect the care needs of themselves and everyone they work with. Their practice involves the embodiment of unconventional care methods that are playful, inquisitive and which shed the layers of shame that are attached to othered bodies.

Produced by videoclub and Film London Artists' Moving Image Network. Supported by Arts Council England and Film London.
