Event speakers will share the many benefits a u3a brings as people learn new things together and have fun. It’s an opportunity to suggest groups and activities which others may like to join.
Recently elected chair, Barbara Rimmington said: “I am very pleased that the Isle of Bute u3a is getting underway. We have been delighted by the public response since our initial meeting just a few months ago. Our new committee has already set up a bank account with a start-up grant of £300 from u3a in Scotland.
"We welcome ideas for future activities. So we encourage anyone wishing to join an interest group, or who’s willing to be its contact person, to come along. Remember, you don’t need to be an expert to lead a topic group or activity!
"Please invite friends and family to the launch. Hear what’s on offer and ways you can help – as the more people who are involved in this community effort, the better.”
Scotland now has 52 community u3as. On Bute, u3a members not in full time work can join one or several groups and activities for a £15 annual fee. Moreover, social outings, cultural visits and regular monthly meetings with interesting topics by guest speakers are planned.
