There are now two full-time course options for you to gain foundational skills in circus arts, at Aerial Edge, Glasgow’s Circus School – one lasts for 4 weeks, the other is 4 months long.
Both are suitable for anyone from beginners to those with experience in physical disciplines. The 4-week course can also be used to hit the ground running, cartwheeling and somersaulting for the 4-month course.
As a non-profit Community Interest Company (CIC), our core principle is circus for all, regardless of age, size, shape or ability. For this reason, our regular schedule of evening classes and our intensive courses are more affordable than standard models, with good student-teacher ratios, and high-quality instruction and mentoring.
Aerial Edge is the largest circus school in Scotland, established in 2007. With decades of expertise in both circus arts and the global industry of creating education programmes, you’re in good hands. Whatever level you start at, you’ll end up significantly better.
In the 4-week course, you’ll learn a range of aerial and acrobatic arts, with a focus on your favourite. There’s the chance to be in an end-of-course performance.
You’ll also learn the fundamentals of biomechanics to reduce your risk of injuries and ensure you train smarter and stronger well into your old age!
In the 4-month course, you’ll gain a solid foundation in aerial, acrobatic and manipulation circus arts, including static and flying trapeze, aerial hoop, silks and rope, acrobalance, acrobatics, handstands, tumbling, teeterboard, trampoline, contemporary and acrobatic dance, juggling, unicycling, tightwire, stilts. Plus:
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and nutrition, to enable you to train smarter to push your own development after the course.
• Insights to history and performance, to boost your creativity.
• Guidance on show and act creation, with choreography.
• Tuition from leading industry professionals in specialist workshops, such as makeup, clowning, dance, rigging and business.
• Performance experience.
• A fantastic showreel made by our cinematographer Gabriel Stella – an invaluable memento, and supporting video for funding and job applications.
This doesn’t have to be about chasing a dream of being a circus star. It can enhance your life and move you on to greater things in any direction. You may discover that you have a talent not just for circus arts, but leadership or inspirational speaking, for instance, or that you're more resilient or confident than you’d believed.
The course takes place in the school’s dedicated circus space in Ibrox, Glasgow, with its aerial rigs, sprung floor and tumble track.
