Jimmy Blair Accordion Orchestra is a vibrant accordion orchestra led by the internationally acclaimed accordionist Gary Blair. It is a non-profit making orchestra based in Paisley with current members aged from 20-70 years of age. Jimmy Blair set up the orchestra in the early 1970s as part of his wider music school. Gary Blair, his son and a renowned accordionist, took over the running of the orchestra in 1980. In August 2009, Gary brought together a new group of talented accordionists to form a new orchestra under the prestigious Jimmy Blair Accordian Orchestra name.
Over the years, the orchestra has gained many awards and are former British Accordion Champions. They regularly perform in care homes, at local community events, church groups, fetes and accordian and fiddle clubs. The orchestra comprises of a mix of leading accordionists and relative beginners.
The orchestra has a large and varied repertoire, consisting of music from all over the world, folk, pop, songs from the movies, singalong songs, and of course traditional Scottish music. Gary arranges all the music performed by the orchestra, with different parts to suit all abilities. He has also written a range of music for the accordian. The orchestra not only provides entertainment at a number of different venues but has also become a strong social community of people of all ages and abilities to join together and enjoy their passion for the accordian.
