About Bookface Sip & Swap with Billy Sloan
Bookface, the Glasgow-born online book group with 3400 members spanning 48 countries, is thrilled to announce that music journalist, author, and broadcaster Billy Sloan will be the special guest at the highly anticipated Bookface Sip & Swap event taking place at August House in Glasgow on Saturday 20th January!
An AAA pass into his 40+ years in the music business is on the cards. Billy Sloan's little black book is worth a small fortune, he’s met them all and chronicles in his memoir, encounters with Grace Jones, Paul McCartney, Alice Cooper, Annie Lennox, David Bowie, Dolly Parton, Mick Jagger and many more.
The event features a sustainable book swap, boasting a collection of 400 titles from various genres. Guests are encouraged to bring up to four books in good condition for participation in the swap. However, even those without books to contribute are welcome to join the exchange, which will follow a 45-minute Q&A session with the esteemed guest author, Billy Sloan.
His illustrious career spans five decades, during which he has built an incredible network within the music industry. Beginning as a music journalist at Scotland's leading newspapers, the Daily Record and the Sunday Mail, Sloan's influence has also extended to his BBC Radio Scotland Saturday night show, which continues to captivate audiences each week. His writing has graced the pages of The Sunday Times, Daily Express, Sunday Post, Glasgow Herald, and many other prestigious publications.
Sloan's impressive journey includes groundbreaking work at Radio Clyde in 1979, where he introduced numerous budding stars to the airwaves. He later became the music correspondent for STV, overseeing their coverage of the iconic T in the Park festival, as well as Scotland Today.
As a music biographer, Billy’s CV includes projects with Simple Minds, Cliff Richard, Wet Wet Wet, Hue and Cry and The Associates, and the endorsements for One Love, One Life are testament to the personal relationships he has built up with so many giants of the music industry: Rod Stewart, Fran Healy, The Proclaimers, Simple Minds, Midge Ure, Paul Buchanan – and even Bono.
Founded by the passionate reader and broadcaster Heather Suttie in 2020, Bookface has rapidly grown into a global community of book enthusiasts who share a deep love for great books. Members trade only great recommendations and they don’t all read the same book at the same time.

The monthly Bookface events in Glasgow consistently sell out, attracting book lovers from all over the UK. These gatherings feature enlightening Q&A sessions with some of the most prominent authors of the moment.
Billy Sloan joins an impressive roster of authors who have graced the sold-out Bookface events in Glasgow, including Chris Brookmyre, John Niven, Ambrose Parry, Davinia Taylor, Alan Parks, Nikki May, Susannah Constantine, Sam Baker, Doug Allan, Paul Trainer, Lisa Gray, Guy Grieve, Helen Fitzgerald, Paul English, and Sophie Gravia.
