The Show For Young Men is a tender and moving new contemporary dance piece, co-created and performed by Alfie, a 10-year-old boy, and Robbie Synge, a 40-something-year-old male dancer.

The Show for Young Men

About The Show for Young Men

What does it mean to be a man today? Robbie (44) and Alfie (10) meet on an extraordinary building site at dawn. Together they dance and play, trying to make sense of it all.

Directed by Eoin McKenzie in collaboration with Robbie Synge and young performer Alfie, this is a funny and tender new contemporary dance performance for audiences aged 8+ that considers familiar and unexpected ideas about masculinity and friendship.

Set against a backdrop of a fictional radio station, the production uses risk-taking dance and joyful play to present Robbie and Alfie's burgeoning friendship, forging a space where a more compassionate and caring mode of masculinity can exist.

Presented by GuestHouse Projects in association with Imaginate, supported by North Edinburgh Arts Centre and the National Lottery through Creative Scotland.

Creative team includes: Scenography by Rachel O’Neill, Sound Design by Greg Sinclair, Lighting Design by Katharine Williams, Movement Consultancy by Aya Kobayashi, Produced by Isabel Sharman, Critical Friends Luke Pell and Ivor MacAskill, with Production Management by SNC Productions (Craig Fleming and Suzie Normand).

The Show for Young Men has been developed with support from Creative Europe’s PUSH+ Programme and residencies with The Ark, Dublin; Aaben Dans, Roskilde; and developed and supported by Imaginate’s Accelerator programme.

Part of the 2024 Made in Scotland Showcase.
