This is a roundtable event inaugurating a new collaborative project by Show Racism the Red Card, IMIX, and Migrant Voice. The project we are launching with this event aims to highlight and celebrate the positive impact of migrants and migration in Scotland. Our Glasgow launch event will focus on migrants in sport, with input from sports personalities, community sports organisations, and the project partners (Show Racism the Red Card, IMIX, and Migrant Voice).
We will explore how migrant athletes act as positive role models and how sport can provide a tool for migrant and refugee integration. We will also exchange ideas on how we can use sports to challenge racism and xenophobia and transform the narrative around migration by showcasing diverse, positive stories of sportspeople who made Scotland their home. To help bring our ideas to life, this event will be followed up by media skills training sessions in February & March.
Speakers include:
Nazek, Ramadan, Director of Migrant Voice
Billy Singh, Campaigns Manager, Show Racism the Red Card
Gary Pluck, IMIX Regional Lead
Razgar Hassan, Chief Executive of Outdoors For You
Mahdi Bahrami, Equality & Diversity Officer & Senior Football Coach, Achieve More Scotland
