What is wild camping? Where can you go? What do you need? How do you set up camp and cook?
These three "basecamp" sessions are designed to answer all these questions and inspire you to plan and go on your first wild camping trip. They will be held at Women on Wheels in Glasgow's Southside and a nearby park. You can come to one or all of them.
These sessions are followed by a (completely optional) weekend on the Isle of Arran to put everything into practice, for those who fancy it.
Session #1: Tuesday 1st April, 6.30pm to 9pm: Wild Camping: What, why, how and where? What is wild camping and why is it great? Where can you go? How to get started? What do you need? This session will answer these questions and inspire you to start planning a wild camping adventure. This session will include a presentation, short films, and lots of time for questions. £0-£5 (Pay what you can- no questions asked)
Session #2: Tuesday 22nd April, 6.30pm to 9pm: Practical: Sleeping and Cooking. We'll look at different options for sleeping in the wild (including bivvy bags and various tents), have a go at setting up some tents (bring your own tent or try one of mine) and discuss what else is needed for a comfortable night's sleep. We'll also take a look at different cooking stoves and give them a go to make ourselves a cup of tea, and chat about what food to to take on a wild camping trip. £0-£5 (Pay what you can- no questions asked).
Session #3: Tuesday 3rd June, 6.30pm to 9pm: Practical: What to wear and pack. In this session we'll talk about what you need to wear and take with you for a night or two, we'll look at the best way to pack a rucksack and you can try walking a short distance with it to see how it feels. I'll share tips for keeping it light and easy to carry. And we'll also discuss where to source kit on a budget. £0-£5 (Pay what you can- no questions asked).
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
