David Bowden is an award-winning bass player and composer based in Glasgow, working primarily in the fields of jazz, folk and improvised music. A mainstay of the Scottish scene, David has toured the UK and Europe extensively and was described by BBC Radio 3 as ‘a gifted bass player’.
In this brand new musical venture, David unveils a stripped-down approach, opting for solo performances on the double bass. Born of his passion for the instrument, he aims to highlight the lyrical and textural capabilities of the double bass while drawing from a wide-ranging musical palette. With a repertoire that weaves together original compositions and thoughtfully arranged songs from the realms of jazz, folk and pop music, audiences can anticipate an exploration of uplifting melodies, expressive improvisation and buoyant rhythms.
David is a founding member of the Mercury Prize nominated Fergus McCreadie Trio. The jazz/folk crossover act has released three albums with ‘Forest Floor’ winning the 2022 Scottish Album of the Year award. He also leads the acclaimed jazz fusion ensemble ‘Mezcla’ which ties together modern jazz with influences from funk, rock and folk music from West Africa, Latin America and beyond.
