Create large vessels and lidded pieces like urns or teapots. Gain insights into studio processes and clay selection. Ideal for those not yet ready to start their own studio practice.
Take home 3-5 pieces. Each 2-hour session includes demos and personalised guidance in small groups of up to 6 people.
We use stoneware clay and custom glazes. Items are food and dishwasher safe when glazed properly.
Commitment to all five sessions required. Quarterly dates—check availability and book online below.
Course Schedule:
Week 1: Clay preparation & throwing session. Learn a little about preparing, reclaiming and the benefits of different clay bodies. Settle into the wheel and throw two large forms with the intention of joining them together in the week following to form a sculptural vessel such as a large vase, fruit bowl with a stand, etc.
Week 2: Trimming and attaching forms session. Learn how to effectively attach and alter your pieces thrown in the week prior and receive an introduction to combining coiling & throwing techniques.
Week 3: Throwing session. Learn how to form a gallery (sunken lip) and a separate lid to fit. This can take the form of a jar, pot or teapot when finalised.
Week 4: Trimming session. Learn how to trim the pieces made in the week prior to fit together and apply handles should you wish.
Week 5: Glazing session. Before decorating your wares, receive a quick explanation from our tutor about glaze chemistry, different glazing methods and safety precautions. Afterwards, get stuck into glazing your work.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
