Becoming a mother is an identity shift of epic proportions. It's easy to feel like you've lost yourself or that you're a failure. Maybe you get mum guilt for the decisions you make. Perhaps motherhood isn't quite what you expected it to be.
Hi, I'm Susie, and this is how I felt too.
I wasn't given enough information about how I would change when I became a mother so I went looking for it myself. I found the word matrescence (the identity shift of motherhood) and it all started to slot into place.
This workshop is to help you make sense of motherhood. It will cover
The concept of matrescence
The myth of the maternal instinct
Representation of mums in the media/fiction
It's a very informal and relaxed environment. There will be talks, tasks, discussions and a take away journaling activity.
You'll learn about what's happened to your brain, why mum guilt is really just a load of old bollocks and the importance of social support. This session is to give you back some control of your life, help you make sense of your identity and empower you with knowledge.
The session will last about 60 minutes with time to chat and ask any questions for the remaining 30 minutes.
And they'll be cake, of course there will be cake. Babies welcome.
