Sew Confident are delighted to announce that Birgitta Helmersson, the godmother of zero waste pattern cutting, will be visiting them from Sweden for a two day workshop!

As part of this 2 day workshop Birgitta will then take you through a project from her book, which you will receive a copy of, giving step-by-step insight into how she designs her patterns to minimise waste.

Zero waste pattern cutting is a bit like a puzzle. Taking a pre-determined length of fabric, you strategically plan your pattern pieces to fill every inch, and then draw them directly onto the fabric. By using this unique paperless method you can eliminate both textile and paper waste from your sewing projects and take the fear out of learning to self draft and sew your own clothing.

You will spend the first day learning how to cut and sew the TEE block from the book. On the second day you will learn techniques for modifying the TEE block into new designs, giving you an insight into the possibilities, and limitations, of using zero waste sewing patterns. After completing this workshop you will know how to stitch without waste and have the foundation to tackle any of the other designs in the book. Additionally, learning how to adjust and modify the blocks will give you the confidence to begin making your very own zero waste pattern designs.
