About On Sale Tomorrow! The Early Comic and Magazine TV Advertising of DC Thomson

Were you a Jackie girl?  Did your house have The People's Friend?  If you grew up reading comics then this is the event for you!

Join Barry Sullivan, DC Thomson Assistant Archivist and film expert, for a light-hearted exploration of a series of classic TV adverts for brands such as Jackie, Annabel, Bunty and The People's Friend. Dating from the 1950s and 60s, these are some of the earliest known Scottish commercial TV adverts in the NLS's collection and show a history of technical and advertising innovation that had real impact on viewers.

A chance discovery of unidentified film in a Dundee basement has lead to a partnership between the NLS Moving Image Archive and DC Thomson to preserve, catalogue and digitise these films for public access.
