Guided by our expert tutors, you explore basic techniques needed to form bowls of different shapes, sizes and purposes. You will learn the fundamental processes throughout this course such as throwing, trimming, glazing and also get the opportunity to explore surface texture and carving. This course prioritises mastering the basics, so you can expect to create 5-7 simple bowls, ranging from small dipping bowls to larger pasta bowls.
Course Outline:
Week 1: Introduction to Throwing Small Bowls. Participants will learn the basics of wheel throwing, focusing on small bowl formation.
Week 2: Introduction to Trimming Bowls and Foot Rings. This session covers trimming techniques, including how to create foot rings for your bowls.
Week 3: Developing Techniques for Larger Bowls. Students will practice throwing larger bowls while exploring various shapes.
Week 4: Advanced Trimming Techniques & Surface Texture. Participants will refine their trimming skills and learn to add surface textures to their bowls.
Week 5: Glazing. The course concludes with instruction on glazing techniques to enhance the finished pieces.

By the end of the course, you’ll have a selection of handmade pottery to take home and the basic skills needed to continue your pottery journey.
