GIBBY IS BACK THIS SUMMER!
Following his acclaimed debut at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, Gibby is back this summer! Stephen Brackenridge brings his superbly original and hilarious solo musical comedy show, Gibby's Bummer in the Summer, to Theatre 118 this June.
Gibby's Bummer in the Summer is a musical comedy theatre show that delves into the absurdity and destructive effects of the ‘manosphere’ in a post-truth world. It’s summertime, but Gibby is all alone since his girlfriend left him for no reason. He’d rather spend his time entertaining true punks like YOU!
Meet Gibby: a punk who has found himself isolated by his increasingly far-right beliefs, fuelled by too much time online. He’s convinced people have abandoned him because they’re ‘offended’ by his ‘shocking material’. In reality, he’s become bigoted and arrogant, believing punching up or down are equally valid art forms. He's certainly disturbing people, just not in the way he imagines.
Gibby's Bummer in the Summer promises a unique theatrical experience, a collage of laugh-out-loud absurdist comedy mixed with surprisingly poignant moments. Expect fantastic original punk music and a story that, beneath the layers of satire, touches on relatable themes of loneliness and the search for connection in a confusing digital age.
Prepare for an evening of ‘Gibbaoke’ – where you can validate Gibby’s questionable views through song – a consequence-free music quiz, pigeon chess and some of the most free-thinking politicking you’ve ever heard, direct from the rabbit hole. The show explores Gibby's 'betrayal' in music and love, his unique (and often misinformed) 'music industry tips', his cringeworthy song 'Female', and his confused takes on everything from stoicism to fifteen-minute cities and why he thinks Piers Morgan is alright (until the loop pedal disagrees).
It’s gonna be great!
