Step into the world of samurai cinema this August at the Grosvenor Picture Theatre! Every Wednesday evening at 20:00, we're bringing you a trio of iconic films that explore the honour, struggle, and artistry of the samurai.
Our season kicks off on August 13th with Akira Kurosawa's masterpiece, Seven Samurai.
This epic tells the story of a destitute village that hires seven masterless samurai to defend them from bandits. Witness the thrilling action and profound character development that has made this film a timeless classic.
On August 20th, join us for Jim Jarmusch's Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai.
Forest Whitaker stars as Ghost Dog, a hitman who lives by the ancient code of the samurai in modern-day New York. This unique blend of gangster film and samurai philosophy offers a stylish and meditative experience.
We conclude our Samurai Season on August 27th with Masaki Kobayashi's powerful Harakiri.
Set in 17th-century Japan, this visually stunning and emotionally resonant film follows a ronin who requests to commit seppuku at the house of a feudal lord, uncovering a dark truth. It's a gripping tale of rebellion and justice.
Don't miss this opportunity to experience these cinematic gems on the big screen. Mark your calendars and prepare for an unforgettable journey into the heart of the samurai spirit.
