Get the edge on your physical training with this approach to aerial and acro conventions – three full days of fun-focused training over the Halloween weekend. Places are very limited – there are only 36 spots, and most have already been snapped up, so book early to avoid disappointment!
This year you can learn from one of the best aerialist's working today: Jason Brügger is flying in from Switzerland to teach aerial straps. Even if you're not into straps, you'll want to spend time learning from this artist. Jason overcame a debilitating ear disease which affected his balance so badly that his coaches as the prestigious National Circus School in Montreal, Canada, told him to stop training. He went on to become a professional performer and took his aerial artistry from the big top to millions of homes when he won Switzerland's Got Talent.
At the October Edge, you’ll curate your own experience by choosing four disciplines from our menu of aerial and acrobatic arts, then do a 90-minute workshop in each of them at the same time every day for three days. There are four arts to choose from in each time slot.
Examples of what you can choose from:
• Flying trapeze
• Rope
• Aerial hoop
• Static trapeze
• Silks
• Straps
• Doubles trapeze
• Acrobatics
• Partner & group acro, hand-to-hand acro
• Trampoline
This is no random taster session bonanza. It’s designed to give you appreciable progress by training the same four arts at the same time every day, for the three days. This is a great opportunity to try new things as well as having a field day with your favourites.
With your instructor, you can choose a specific goal which is appropriate for your level in any arts where you already have some experience. For arts that you haven’t tried before, you can focus on transferring your skills from existing disciplines, or work the basics if it’s completely new to you, and get a solid grip on it before the weekend’s over.
Whatever skills you may or may not have at the start, you'll finish up at a higher level. You may be surprised how training your body and mind intensively like this, day after day, can boost your skills.
At these Edge festivals at Easter and October, participants have seen unprecedented progress as seemingly unconnected arts produced connections through the body and mind coordination systems that became more than the sum of the parts.
For instance, what they learned on the dynamic hoop pathway brought unexpected breakthroughs in flying trapeze. The progressions in the flow arts path helped them on the acrobatics path.
And of course, it's all ridiculously enjoyable. Some people may be more experienced and skilled than you, others less...the beautiful thing is that we're all there together encouraging each other, laughing and loving what we do.
Suitable for ages 16+.
