Ever watched with wonder as aerial performers daringly dance and spin with their silks and hoops, or transfix you with their trapeze skills? Well, you’ll be surprised and thrilled with how quickly you can learn to do it!

We have classes for all ages and abilities from tiny toddlers to people who began in their 60s and carry on through their 70s, and every age in between. Forget about age, experience, body shape, size, shape, or any other factor. At Aerial Edge, circus is for all.

• Our Youth Circus classes are great for toddlers, pre-schoolers and pupils at both primary and secondary schools.

• We run full-time courses and recreational classes in the evenings and weekends.

• You can even have a one-off circus adventure by booking a party or a work team-building session with whichever aerial and acrobatic arts you fancy.

The school is home to our famous flying trapeze – people come from all over the land to fly with us! There’s a great range of other aerials to enjoy – hoop, rope, silks, straps, chains and a variety of trapeze styles.

The ever-popular Circus Fitness class is an ideal starting point because in each session, you’ll enjoy short bursts of different aerial and ground-based acrobatic activities.

Acrobatic classes include trampoline, tumbling, handstands, acrobalance, dance acrobatics, and parkour flips & tricks.

At Scotland’s largest circus school, established in 2007, you’ll be taught by instructors who are also performers, in a non-profit organisation that’s dedicated to developing people.

What does that mean? It means you’ll be welcomed into the uniquely safe, encouraging and non-competitive Aerial Edge community where the emphasis is fully on fun. You’ll learn at your own pace, in your own unique way. We’ll start where you are, and we’ll support you every step of the way to make sure you progress. And it’s likely that you’ll progress in other aspects of your life as well.

Circus training presents unique challenges, and we see people developing life skills as well as physical skills as they deal with those challenges. It’s excellent for developing improved concentration, coordination and problem-solving abilities, to name just a few. You can find out more about this at www.aerialedge.co.uk

You can drop in one class at a time, or get a great discount by booking packs of classes for adults, and one term at a time for Youth Circus.

There are also classes designed to develop strength and flexibility in the right muscles, private lessons to focus on particular things, and self-training sessions to practice what you’ve learned in classes.

There’s space for professionals to train and rehearse, and we’re experts in rigging to stay safe so there are opportunities to learn that, too.

If you have a particular aim in mind, you can have a personal training programme designed especially for you.

You can enjoy anything from occasional classes through weekend workshops and short courses to a full-time Foundation Course in Circus Arts at Aerial Edge – and there are regular opportunities to perform in shows at the school.

Aerial Edge Youth Circus

In Youth Circus, every class offers a broad base of aerial, acrobatic and object manipulation skills – everyone from toddlers to teenagers explores the exciting world of circus arts in a safe and hugely enjoyable way.

There’s endless fun to be had on trapeze, rope, silks, trampoline and more. Our unique formula of structured syllabus and freedom to experiment and express yourself gives space for you to develop life skills, social skills, patience, physical and psychological flexibility as well as some awesome tricks and talents on the apparatus.

Your reflexes and reaction times can get faster as you learn sequenced movements with speed and momentum, and into the bargain these classes can improve the Five Cs: coordination, creativity, concentration, confidence, and collaboration.

Much has been written in educational circles about learning through play. Because of the inherent fun of our activities and our teaching ethos, circus classes are unparalleled among physical activities for developing the whole person.

Through physical activities and social interactions, children create neural pathways which are essential for the progression of good brain development. The way that the brain evolves (especially in under-fives) has a lasting impact on a child’s ability to succeed at school and life. And the great news is that our circus activities are ideal for brain building by stimulating and strengthening these neural pathways.

The variety and inherent joy of our classes supports young people through physiological and emotional turbulence as they grow, and their abilities and interests ebb and flow.

Youth Circus runs at the same times as Glasgow City Council school terms, and during the holidays there are all-day camps. You can drop in for one class at a time or enjoy a great discount when you book a whole term of weekly classes.

Age groups are 1-7, 7-13 and 13-18. In some classes and in camps, the two older age groups run together.

Children up to age four need to bring a fun-loving adult with them. It doesn’t matter to us whether it’s mum, carer, nanny or granny, we do it this way because it helps your child be more confident as they explore the activities together with someone they know beside them.

Although children aged from four don't need to bring a grown-up to the class, the truth is that most of the adults enjoy joining in the activities too much to drop their kids and go!

You will learn how to safely support your child so that they can confidently develop their skills, and together you’ll create fabulous sequences by balancing with each other. We find that everyone enjoys it so much that they practice at home between classes!

For more information see www.aerialedge.co.uk and our article about the Benefits of Youth Circus (they apply to adults too!).
