The gig will act as warm-up as the band prepare to perform with Alison Moyet at the Magners Summer Nights festival on Saturday 9th August at the Kelvingrove Bandstand. Tickets are available for free on a first come first served basis from behind the bar at The Griffin from 5pm on the day of the show. Doors open at 6pm and the set will run from 6.30pm – 7pm.
The Bluebells have just launched a new album – Exile on Twee Street. Songs from Glasgow 1980-1982. The album is a collection of recordings which the band made before they signed with London Records. They’ll be performing a selection of those songs, including the world famous Young at Heart, to an intimate audience at The Griffin Bar, the local pub where they launched their music careers in 1980.
Ken McCluskey, singer said: “We always get the best buzz when we perform in our home city and the band are really excited to be playing at the Magners Summer Nights Festival, not least because of its cracking venue at the Bandstand and its superb line up of acts.”
Magners Summer Nights will run across two weekends in August (7th-9th and 14th-16th) with a stunning line-up including The Bluebells, Alison Moyet, The Waterboys, Steve Earle, Squeeze, Capercaillie, The Silencers and Teenage Fanclub.
In addition, eight of the best Edinburgh Festival Fringe acts will bring their world class comedy to headline the inaugural Magners Summer Comedy between 1pm and 3pm on Saturday 9th and Saturday 16th August. Compered by award winning British comedian and presenter of The Stephen K Amos Show, Stephen K Amos, the sessions are aptly titled ‘Best of the Fest in the West’, and will feature top acts from the Edinburgh International Festival Fringe, including the Umbilical Brothers and Frisky & Mannish.
The festival will feature a Magners Cider Garden incorporating premium street food with areas to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings with friends. Gates will open for the music performances at 6pm each night, allowing the audience to enjoy the magnificent setting in the heart of Kelvingrove Park with a bottle of the UK’s favourite apple cider brand.
Tickets for Magners Summer Nights and Magners Summer Comedy are available from www.ticketmaster.co.uk or 0844 844 0444.
