The Islay based whisky brand, Bunnahabhain, has unveiled a special one-day trip, taking visitors directly from Glasgow to its distillery in the north of the island and back the same day, during the annual Feis Ile – The Islay Festival of Music and Malt.
Thought to be the first trip of its kind run by a distillery, the Bunnahabhain Daytripper will collect malt-lovers from Glasgow city centre, before delivering them via ferry to the magical Island of Islay, for the festival, plus exclusive tasting events with Bunnahabhain’s Distillery Manager.
Daytrippers will enjoy a spectacular coach journey savouring the stunning West coast scenery before stepping aboard HMS Bunnahabhain. In order to ensure the Daytrippers are fuelled up for this jam-packed outing, a full Scottish breakfast including Bunnahabhain black pudding will be served on the crossing to Islay.
Bunnahabhain ambassadors will then accompany the Daytrippers to the distillery where they can experience a selection of ‘dramming’ sessions, a private tour of the distillery and the opportunity to sample two limited edition malts created especially for the festival, and only available from the distillery:
Moine Pedro Ximenez 12-Year-Old
Moine means ‘peat’ in Scots Gaelic, back in 2004 this spirit was first put into casks and left to sleep in the sea facing warehouse on the shore for nine years. It was then carefully filled into Pedro Ximenez casks and returned to the warehouse for another three years to take on the wood and sherry influences. This has resulted in a rich and complex single malt that delivers a wonderful combination of intense peat and sherry sweetness. RRP £95
Amontillado 16-Year-Old
A rare limited edition single malt Bunnahabhain has been crafted for Feis Ile 2016. Originally the single malt started off in bourbon casks where it was left to mature for 10 years, at this point the liquid was then transferred to specially selected Amontillado casks and returned to sleep for a further six years. The result is a gloriously distinct creamy Bunnahabhain married with sweet sherry. RRP £250
Daytrippers will depart Port Ellen early evening to complete the return journey to Glasgow. A hearty meal will be served aboard HMS Bunnahbhain, and for those Daytrippers still going strong back in the city a farewell dram has been arranged.
