New collaboration brings entertainment to the Southside

Following a year-long closure, Queen's Park Arena is set to reopen in early 2017 with a new events programme!

When Queen’s Park Arena re-opens in early 2017, following the year-long closure caused by Scottish Water’s Shieldhall works, the Arena programme will be operated by Inhouse Ltd.

This dynamic, locally based event company will be working with Queen’s Park Arena Ltd., which has, since 2009, led the public consultation, fund- raising and renovation that has brought the site back into use and who now occupy it with the agreement of Glasgow City Council.

Queen’s Park Arena chair, Evelyn Silber, commented, ‘We are delighted to be working with Inhouse. Their professional expertise and networks will help us realise the vision of the Arena as a uniquely flexible, sustainable venue for the southside. That vision emerged from the views of nearly 1,000 local people we surveyed back in 2009 when we began to consider whether and how to regenerate this derelict site.

We have run a few events, notably the pop-up performance of Madama Butterfly with Scottish Opera and three Southside Shindigs - all very popular - but our capacity has been limited. Inhouse will develop a much more active event programme from community and professional performers and linking with other events such as the Southside Fringe. They will also support the aspirations of small community groups to perform. The Arena Board will have ultimate responsibility for maintaining the Arena and will oversee the programme. This should result in an evolving programme of activity while ensuring that the Arena can be sustained as a community-led venue attracting a wide variety of performance from music and dance to food and sport related activities.’
