Councillor David McDonald, Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “It is easy to get caught up with an ever-expanding To-Do list at this time of year. Glasgow Museums has launched a programme of Christmas workshops, activities and events designed to add a little fun to this festive season and keep the last-minute frenzy to a minimum. The great news is most are free and there is no need to book.”

The ever-popular Santa School is set to return to Scotland Street School Museum on Saturdays and Sundays throughout December. Youngsters are invited to swap spelling and sums for lessons in learning how to be Santa, just in case they ever have to stand-in for the big man in an emergency! Although Santa will be flat out in his North Pole workshop, his trusty helpers will deliver a crash course in becoming a ‘Stand-in Santa’, with children learning how to create their own Santa beard, shake their belly like a bowl full of jelly and make some reindeer food. Santa School workshops are on Sat 2, 9 and 16 and Sun 3, 10, 17 Dec, each session lasts for one hour and MUST be pre-booked at www.glasgowmuseums.com

Enjoy all the fun of the Christmas Fair when Riverside Museum sprinkles some festive fairy dust over its iconic Edwardian street transforming it into a real bustling Christmas market. Crafts stalls will be brimming with unique, handcrafted and locally produced gifts, jewellery, decorations and food. Children can go arts and crafts crazy at the creative Wooden Trains, Toy Figures and Banners workshop, while outside they can whizz round on FREE fairground rides. Riverside Christmas Festival is on Sat 2 and Sun 3 Dec. There will be a quiet hour on Sun 3 Dec from 10 – 11am for families of children with autism, who can enjoy the fair in a quieter environment.

Nothing feels more like Christmas than listening to the angelic voices of school choirs singing traditional Christmas carols. Throughout the month of December there will be musical performances by different children’s choirs, filling Riverside with seasonal songs to lift the spirits. While on Fri 15 Dec from 1.30pm to 2.30pm pupils will tie some tinsel to their tubas, trumpets and trombones and perform festive favourites as the countdown to Christmas really hots up.

The Gallery of Modern Art’s Saturday Art Club is sure to have Judy Garland singing Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas in its ears as they help imaginative elves make their own Christmas garland. Pop in and create an Eduardo Paolozzi inspired garland to decorate your front door or front room this festive season. Seasonal Garlands Sat 2 Dec 10.30-12.30pm suitable for 3-12 yrs. Or if labels are more you thing GoMA will help you design, print and paint unique and unusual labels to garnish your gorgeous gifts ready for Rudolph to deliver this Christmas.
