Glasgow Mela to be staged in Kelvingrove Park on June 24th
The Glasgow Mela will be back in the summer of 2018 for another amazing celebration of Scotland’s biggest free multicultural festival.

The Glasgow Mela, which was first held in 1990, will be held on Sunday 24 June in Kelvingrove Park in Glasgow’s West-End.
Councillor Christina Cannon, Chair of the Glasgow Mela steering group, said: “The Glasgow Mela is a glorious celebration of our diversity which is now a much anticipated part of the city’s cultural calendar. Over the years it has grown to be the biggest outdoor multicultural event in Scotland thanks to a mix of international artists and local talent. Our ambition is always to improve on what has gone before and this year the line-up is already looking brilliant. The Glasgow Mela will deliver a vibrant expression of Glasgow’s friendliness and inclusion through art and culture and offer a great day’s entertainment for everyone.”
Last year, the Glasgow Mela was named Best UK Mela at the UK Bhangra Awards. As well as great entertainment and unforgettable performances, the Glasgow Mela is renowned for the outstanding food and the diverse stalls which can be found at the event.
Although the full line-up for this year’s Glasgow Mela is still being assembled, the organisers have opened the doors to community groups from around the city to get involved. Glasgow’s first Mela was in 1990 as part of the European City of Culture and was an indoor celebration at the then newly opened Tramway.
It has grown to a massive outdoor event which attracts tens of thousands of visitors and hundreds of artists and performers from all over the world.
Coming from the Sanskrit word “to meet”, the Mela has become an eagerly anticipated fixture on the cultural calendar of the city.
