Glasgow Life has identified a number of venues and facilities which it is planning to reopen by early October.
Among the first were 11 golf, tennis and lawn bowls facilities across the city last month.
From Tuesday (11th August) Ibrox, Pollokshaws and Shettleston libraries will reopen to the public. Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum (w/c 17th August), Partick Library (w/c 24th August) and the Riverside Museum (w/c 31th August) are also expected to return this month.
Proposed dates for the reopening of several of Glasgow Life’s other sports and arts venues throughout August and early September are having to be revised following the Scottish Government’s announcement that these venues must remain closed until at least Monday 14th September.
As one of Scotland’s largest charities, Glasgow Life is at the heart of Glasgow’s communities, delivering some of the city’s most used and most valued services. In 2019/20, more than 18m attendances were recorded across its venues and events.
Councillor David McDonald, Chair of Glasgow Life and Depute Leader of Glasgow City Council, said: “The phased reopening of Glasgow Life’s venues and facilities has always been on the basis of the Scottish Government’s guidance and route-map timescale allowing us to do so.
“The opening of some of our libraries and museums is an important milestone for Glasgow Life and for the city. As restrictions gradually ease, it marks another step towards life after Covid-19, even though the way people will experience these venues will be different for the foreseeable future.
“We would ask all of our customers and visitors to follow our new guidance with regards to accessing and moving around our venues and to please book in advance for our musuems. Most of all, we would encourage people to keep themselves and others safe when visiting any of our venues by maintaining social distancing and wearing a mask or face covering.
“Following the Government’s decision that gyms, swimming pools, indoor sports courts, stadia, theatres and arts venues must remain closed until at least Monday 14 September, we are reviewing what this means for those venues previously identified in our reopening plans and will share this information as soon as possible.”
