Brother In Arms and local businesses are rallying to ‘highlight’ the issue of male suicide, as well as the help the charity can offer to those struggling with mental health issues, with the month long #BlondeForBrothersInArms campaign.
On Saturday 31st October, 12 Brothers In Arms volunteers got the ball rolling as they had their hair bleached at Glasgow’s most Instagrammable salon, BLOW CITY, by colour specialist and owner, Fallon Carberry.
Among those having a hair make-over was Glasgow born, international DJ, Jackmaster, who took to the decks during his hair-transformation and soundtracked the rest of the afternoon.
As well as a day of music and hairdo’s, the volunteers were also treated to food from local restaurant, Brunch Club which hosts a weekly peer support group for the charity, at which the idea for #BlondeForBrothersInArms was born.
Brother’s In Arms is encouraging as many people as possible to get involved by dying their hair blonde, and other bright colours including green and pink, for the month of November, signifying the light the charity is shining on the issue which is the biggest killer of men under 45.
Suicide and mental health issues have only been on the rise since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, making this a critical time to raise awareness of the issue and what support is out there for those who need it.
Kieran Woods, head of fundraising at Brothers In Arms, said: “I’d like to say thank you to our volunteers, BLOW and Brunch Club for their support of our #BlondeForBrothersInArms campaign. It’s always greatly appreciated, but at a time when everyone is struggling, it means so much.
“Yesterday was a great day, and our volunteers are all looking fantastic with their fresh new look. We hope this encourages people across the country to get involved and to share their hair transformations with us on social media using #BlondeForBrothersInArms – we can’t wait to see everyone looking fabulous in the name of men’s mental health”
Fallon Carberry, owner of the BLOW salon group, said: “We're always happy to support Brothers in Arms. The work they do is incredible and helps so many people. It was great to have the volunteers into the salon and help raise awareness about such an important issue. We can't wait to see everyone go #BlondeForBrothersInArms this November to get people talking about men's mental health.”
