Vienna in Glasgow! Websters unveils Secession plan
One of the most iconic buildings in Glasgow has unveiled a new artistic offering, inspired by a 19th century Viennese art movement, as Websters Theatre proudly presents: Secession.

Situated within the former Lansdowne Church on Great Western Road, a matter of metres from Kelvinbridge Underground, Secession is the newly refurbished West End bar at Websters and opens to the public for the first time this Friday.
The interior of the existing bar has been reinvented, inspired by the historic art movement - the Vienna Secession - where artists such as Gustav Klimt forged a new decorative approach to painting and interior design at the beginning of the last century.
Many coffee house and bar interiors in Vienna as well as other east European cities such as Budapest and Prague were inspired by the Vienna Secession. Glasgow artists and designers including Mackintosh and his associates were prominent exhibitors at Secessionist Exhibitions.
Secession's menus have also been designed in a continental style providing charcuteries, pates and cheeses with a pickled onion or two included in the platter. Offering classic cocktails, a coffee house and sun-facing beer garden, Websters opens Friday from 12noon with regular opening hours of: Wednesday & Thursday 4pm-11pm; Friday & Saturday 12noon-midnight and Sunday 11am-10pm (closed Monday & Tuesday).
David Robertson, director said: “We are thrilled to unveil Secession, following the reinvention of our existing West End bar, which results in a much more impactful and enjoyable use of that facility as well as being a perfect complement to our adjacent popular theatre.
“Inspired by the Vienna Secession art movement, we have worked to create a real European café feel with cocktails, charcuteries and coffee on offer as well as drinks from a discreetly position dual counter bar and we can’t wait to welcome residents and visitors to what we believe is a truly unique venue.”
The famous artistic link between Glasgow and Central Europe is brought to life at Secession which is housed within the former church's beautiful west entrance retaining all the historic features complemented with lavish decoration, all on a street voted the coolest in the UK by Time Out.
