HAUS Collective funds creative courses for homelessness charity

Glasgow-based architecture studio HAUS Collective is funding educational courses for homelessness charity The Marie Trust after raising £15K on a charity bike ride that marked ten years of practice.

Last summer, HAUS founding directors Jim Webster and Murray Henderson embarked on a sponsored 651-mile bike ride from Glasgow to Berlin, where the pair first hatched the plan to go into business together.

The Marie Trust, renowned for its front-line work in Glasgow for those facing homelessness, will use the funds to enable access to higher education. Two courses have been secured at the City of Glasgow College: one creative course covering computer-aided design, 3D printing and jewellery production, and another in Scots law.

HAUS director Jim Webster said: “Murray and I wanted to mark ten years in business by doing something to give back to the city where we are based, and the support and generosity we received from our clients, friends and family was overwhelming. We have seen the incredible work The Marie Trust does, and the whole team at HAUS is proud to be able to contribute to their mission to provide a route of out homelessness.”

As well as donations from friends, family, and colleagues, several HAUS clients sponsored the ride, including Moda Living, Westpoint Homes, Ediston, Kelvin Properties, PMI Developments, Urban Pulse and Breck Property.

Frances McKinlay, Chief Officer of The Marie Trust, said: “We’re very grateful that HAUS chose to raise funds for our charity; without this support, these courses would not be possible. It is providing different opportunities for people to learn that would not otherwise be accessible and giving people a purpose in their lives to try something new to help them out of poverty.”
