A local theatre group is looking for a talented dog to join the cast of a play which is part of the Glasgow International Comedy Festival (GICF) this spring with auditions taking place Wednesday 12th Feb, 2pm at The Social Hub. Please email Michael at gentlemenofacertainvintage@gmail.com to secure an audition slot. (Or get your owner to do this for you.) Subject to availability and roles are open to dogs only.
‘Walking Shadows’, performing at Websters Theatre on 20th, 21st and 22nd March as part of Glasgow International Comedy Festival has a cast of 12 humans, who are already in rehearsal for the show, and one dog. Now, the cast are set to hold doggie auditions at Glasgow’s Social Hub, on the hunt for a canine star in the making.
The script calls for the dog to make a short appearance in the play and perform a trick on stage. Whether Great Danes or Sausage Dogs, the role is open to dogs of any size or breed, although the “cute factor” is bound to play a part.
Ts&Cs: Dogs must be accompanied by their human at auditions but don’t require any previous theatre experience.
The successful pooch will not only land the starring role in the play but will be presented with their very own trophy to take home – ‘The Dogscar’ for a lasting memento of their time in showbiz.
The winning dog’s owner will also receive a pair of tickets to the show each night to see their beloved pup take to the stage.
Writer and director of Walking Shadows, Glasgow based Michael Lewis, is holding auditions for this crucial role at The Social Hub 15 Candleriggs Square, Glasgow G1 1TQ on Wednesday 12th February at 2pm.
Michael said: “We’re excited to host these very special doggie auditions ahead of our Glasgow International Comedy Festival show for ‘Walking Shadows’. Although it’s a small role, it’s a vital one and we’re hoping to discover the next Spaniel Day Lewis or Michael Canine…They say never to work with animals or children but we’re confident Glasgow is home to some dogs who could have a successful career in the spotlight waiting for them.”
Walking Shadows is a farce within a farce; we see behind the scenes as a shambolic am-dram group attempt to put on a classic comic play. It was successfully performed at the GICF in 2015, and was described by audiences then as "Really clever, slick and funny"; "a fabulous, hilarious show" and "a fantastic show -just so clever and so funny."
