On Thursday 10th April, three AA Rosette awarded Elements Restaurant, in Bearsden, Glasgow will host the chief winemaker from Napa Valley’s world-renowned Grgich Hills winery for an exclusive one-off dinner.
Chef owner Gary Townsend will welcome talented Grgich Hills winemaker Ivo Jeramez, where the pair will combine their passions for fine wine and local produce to create a memorable evening with exclusive wines and exceptional dishes. Ivo has chosen Elements as his only Scotland location on his limited, three-stop journey throughout the UK; and guests will enjoy four exceptional courses paired with premium wines (£165pp). Dishes include a Tweed Valley Lamb with Lamb Fat Potato, Chicory and Chimichurri with a Grgich Hills Merlot alongside a Xoco Nica Brown Chocolate, Jamaican Blue Difference Coffee and Alphonso Mango, together with a complex yet nimble Cabernet Sauvignon.
Grgich wines first gained international recognition at the celebrated ‘Paris Tasting’ in 1976. In what is now one of the most historic blind tastings in history, a panel of French judges sipped an array of fabled French white burgundies and a small sampling of upstart chardonnays from Napa Valley. In a stunning result, the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay, crafted by Mike Grgich, was chosen as the finest white wine in the world, immediately earning Mike a reputation as one of the greatest winemakers in the world. In 1986, Ivo joined his uncle Mike Grgich in California, learning the classic art of winemaking, supported by the tools of science and technology.
Ivo has continued this legacy and says, “At Grgich Hills, we grow grapes like my grandfather did, farming without chemicals and pesticides. Mike taught me early that you need great grapes to make great wine. Our natural farming allows the wines to be more authentic - more distinctive.”
