The 90s remains one of the truly iconic decades. Before mobile phones people were glued to TV screens in the 90s: This Life, Sex In The City, Seinfeld, Friends and, ahem, Art Attack, to Trainspotting, Titanic and Groundhog Day in cinemas. Or taking in bouncy Britpop and wild raves to Fever Pitch, The Beach and Bridget Jones’ Diary, all part of an era steeped in pop-culture lore, stopping off for a bottle of Taboo and Frazzles along the way.
For anyone who rocks their platform shoes, loves rave anthems or sings along to Spice Girls, Bongo’s Bingo is bringing the epic tracks from the 90s – from the Backstreet Boys to Nirvana and TLC to 2Pac, all part of the decade which gave dial-up internet and Tamagotchis. And double denim? Check. Calvin Klein? Naturally. Bobbed hair? Of course. Super Mario Kart? Absolutely. It was a magical and halcyon period in the UK and one which Bongo’s Bingo will be celebrating in all its beautiful glories at SWG3 in Glasgow with three 90s dates as part of the newly released June listings. Expect all of the usual madness plus special themed prizes and music at the 90s specials for the complete immersive experience, with fancy dress very much encouraged to get fully into the mood.
The dates at SWG3 are: Friday 13th (90s Special) Saturday 14th (matinee and evening – 90s Specials), Friday 20th, Friday 21st (matinee and evening), Friday 27th and Saturday 28th (matinee and evening) June.
Bongo’s Bingo’s co-founder Jonny Bongo says: “The 90s is such a wonderful period in the UK, with so much pop culture and general craziness which saw out the entire century. We love a theme at Bongo’s Bingo and there’s just so much to work with from the 90s, there’s amazing music from bangers to classics and endless hands-in-the-air tunes which will have everyone in raptures. The 90s events are part of our June release of dates – there are loads to choose from at SWG3 in Glasgow so it’s time get involved and start the summer with us. Tickets are on sale now as we continue to celebrate our 10th anniversary.”
Fresh from celebrating two years since Samuel L Jackson dropped into SWG3, it’s been a crazy journey. Since its humble origins in Liverpool back in spring 2015, Bongo’s Bingo has expanded across the UK selling over 5 million tickets, taking place in over 40 UK locations to far-flung fun and frolics in Ibiza, New York, Dubai and Australia. During this time Bongo’s Bingo has proudly and lovingly reinvented the quaint pastime for a new generation. It unites people from all walks of life in a wild social extravaganza. There’s truly nowhere else like Bongo’s Bingo to be immersed in hours of pure escapism, hedonism and a gigantic dollop of nostalgia.
