Join us in the shadow of the rock and celebrate norse history and heritage. As the Vikings invade dumbarton you will have the opportunity to find out all about their influence on Scotland from raiding to conquests and setlements to integration and discover how relevant it all is today. You will come away asking yourself 'are we all really Vikings?'
The Year of Coasts and Waters is a celebration of Scotlands coastline and the role that’s played in shaping who we are, who better to showcase this than the Vikings! They invented the first compas - an indispensible for sea navigation and a piece of equipmnet now adorning every vessle onthe ocean. Come along and discover more about this early costal raids, arts , craftmanship and music. Discover what the Norse settlers brough to our shores. This year The Rock of Ages will also form part of the Dumbarton 2020 Festival River Town.
If you are a Historic Scotland member, admission to this event is free of charge. You do not need to book a ticket, please just bring along your membership card to gain entry.
