In Dance Move, the new collection of stories from Wendy Erskine, we meet characters who are looking to wrest control of their lives, only to find themselves defined by the moment in their past that marked them. In these stories – as in real life – the funny, the tender and the devastating go hand in hand. Full of warmth, the familiar and the strange, they are about what it means to live in the world, how far you can end up from where you came from, and what it means to look back.
Jem Calder’s Reward System is a set of ultra-contemporary and electrifyingly fresh fictions about a generation of the cusp; the story of two people enmeshed in Zooms and lockdowns, loneliness and love. Life should have started to take shape by now - but instead we're trying on new versions of ourselves, swiping left and right, searching for a convincing answer to that question: 'What do you do?'
The Twelve Stories in Gerda Stevenson’s Letting Go take us on a journey through landscape, language and turbulent times, from the mid-19th century to the present day, and into the future. Themes exploring identity, creativity and the environment, echo and connect throughout the different narratives, sometimes carried in snatches of song. Stevenson leads us outward from her native Scottish Borders to Edinburgh, Glasgow and the Gaeltacht, South of England, across the Atlantic to Apartheid South Africa and, finally, to the melting Arctic.
