Lino printing, also known as lino cutting, is a hands-on printmaking technique dating back to the early 20th century, made popular by the German Expressionist and Russian Constructivist movements. Similar to woodcarving and etching, a pattern or design is carved into a linoleum surface, leaving a design in relief that is inked and transferred to paper or fabric. Used by acclaimed artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse, this method is popular with professional creatives and casual crafters alike due to it's effectiveness when creating multiple prints of a single artistic piece.
This studio-based session will introduce you to materials, tools and method for lino printmaking. Beginning with planning and creating artwork suitable for printmaking by experimenting with drawing and mark-making techniques to explore shape, line, form and texture: The workshop continues with carving and transferring your design. You will leave having printed your artwork onto a selection of paper and card suitable for gifting or framing.
All materials are provided but feel free to bring along any mark-making tools or images you’d like to work from. No experience necessary.
General Admission tickets are £40 and include materials and paper for development, use of full cutting and printing kit, a selection of paper and card for printing, your reusable printing tile, light refreshments and an edition of prints in your chosen format.
You can use our Pay-it-Forward option to make an additional donation towards providing all members of our community with access to workshops and events.
