This is a unique class in person with a small number of participants in the lovely creative space of the Woodlands Community in the Kelvingrove park area, Glasgow.
Botanical Printing is the Art of creating unique mono prints out of Botanical elements (leaves, stems, flowers...) without adding any colour out of the equation. We use the resources Nature gives us and when possible recycled material as target material. It is a really creative low impact slow Art. It can be enjoyed by all, both beginners and most knowledgeable participants.
On the day we will experiment with the local Cotinus leaves.
Elisabeth will be foraging for leaves between 9 to 10 am locally and will invite you to join her if you are interested. The class will resume at 11am in the workspace.
Elisabeth is a textile artist, French born who runs a sustainable Eco studio in the West end of Glasgow. She is well known for her community Eco projects, "Printing in Woodlands" was about Eco-printing the seasons in the Woodlands Community garden, in "The True Colour of the Cotinus" she gathered hundreds of botanical printers from around the globe to create blue prints from the Cotinus leaves. This year she is growing Japanese Indigo and other dye plants in the Glasgow Botanical Garden in her "Indigo plot" . She does not just teach you a technique but she opens the gate to let you in her community and using Social media she keeps on interacting with you, motivating you along to keep experimenting and creating.
Elisabeth mainly teaches online since the beginning of Covid apart from a few special workshop and this is her first one in Glasgow. Back to the Woodlands area to spend a day teaching you how to create great prints out of Urban botanics. Those are the discarded leaves... the branches popping out of fences, leaves fallen off the trees... this is sustainable printing but creating beautiful artwork to use in collages, and stitching.
We will look at material, preparations, mordants and botanical to:
• create some good prints both on paper and fabric
• to make on the day a good few bundles to take home
• to exchange a lot of technical knowledge allowing you to go further
• to have a lot of creative fun and engage in a process
This class is suitable for complete beginners, you will receive a pre workshop brief to allow you to prepare. You will receive online instructions after the class. You will leave with all your work and any leaves we have not used up... and a solid new addiction.
