An Evening with Mr Haydn is presented by Glasgow Orchestral Society.
Conductor - Allan McPhee
The Orchestra, founded in 1870, is a full symphony orchestra with about 70 members. Tonight, however, a smaller group will perform two symphonies by Joseph Haydn who is called the "father of the symphony". These will be Symphony No 1 in D major and Symphony No 45 in F sharp minor, the "Farewell". Between the two symphonies, members of the orchestra will be joined by Alan Kitchen and Heloise Bernard in a group of Scottish songs arranged by Haydn for voice, keyboard, violin and cello, using a recent edition published by Glasgow based Professor Marjorie Rycroft. This will be a very enjoyable programme for a midsummer evening.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
