Silverburn, Scotland’s leading retail and leisure destination, is inviting job seekers to attend its annual Job Fair on Friday 4 October, to discover the range of roles up for grabs.
Held in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions, the annual event has become a staple for job seekers in the area, with hundreds of vacancies waiting to be filled.
Building on the success of previous years, the fair will welcome a mix of high-profile retailers including Marks & Spencer, Next, JD and Mango among others who will be on hand to discuss their current vacancies and provide some insights into the roles available.
The range of vacancies available includes both part-time and full-time roles, along with permanent and temporary Christmas contracts. Many of the roles are flexible and would suit students, working parents or those looking to return to work. Attendees can browse the options, chat with representatives from the stores, share their CV’s, and find out more about what roles are available.
Max Rodgers and Ben Cleary both attended the event in 2023 and successfully secured part time sales assistant roles in Schuh. Max, 18, initially secured a temporary Christmas contract with the popular footwear retailer but after showing strong potential, he was offered a permanent position.
Max said: “I attended last year’s event with a group of friends after school as I was a bit nervous to go alone, but everyone was so friendly and approachable. There was so much choice, and the managers were more than happy to answer any questions I had, which made the decision of which to roles to apply for much easier.
“I’ve worked at Schuh for nearly a year now and I’ve really enjoyed it. My advice for anyone considering coming along to the job fair would be to just be yourself, be confident and ask lots of questions.”
Ben, 17, was in school studying for his prelims when he heard about the job fair. With Silverburn close to home, he decided to pop in and see what roles were on offer.
Ben said: “It’s a great opportunity to ask questions about the different roles on offer. Each retailer was very approachable and gave good insights into what the job involved, and the skills needed so you can judge whether it’s for you or not – it’s very informal.
“I’ve really enjoyed the past year of working in the centre. It’s a great location, the staff at Schuh are all really nice and the staff discount definitely doesn’t hurt!”
David Pierotti, General Manager of Silverburn, said: “We’re excited to welcome those looking for work or a change of career to our Job Fair on Friday 4 October. Last year’s event was a great success and as we gear up for the festive season, this event is a fantastic opportunity to connect local talent with our retailers to meet the demand of this busy retail period.”
The event will be held in the main atrium from 12pm – 5pm on Friday 4 October.
