The award-winning singer-songwriter is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards and her own poetically poignant original compositions. It was the lead single from her 1967 album Wildflowers, ‘Both Sides, Now’ — written by Joni Mitchell — that gave Collins international prominence.
Collins experienced the biggest success of her career with her recording of Stephen Sondheim's ‘Send in the Clowns’ from her best-selling 1975 album. The single spent 27 non-consecutive weeks on the chart and earned Collins a Grammy Award nomination.
Judy Collins is as creatively energetic as ever, writing, touring worldwide and still collaborating with other artists.
Immortalised as ‘Judy Blue Eyes’ by Crosby, Stills and Nash, Judy Collins has been a US folk icon since the headiest days of the 1960s, a former classical piano prodigy seduced by the songs of Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger, who went on to introduce Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell and Randy Newman to the wider world. Now 83 years young, she’s equally celebrated for her songwriting and her singular interpretative gifts, spanning both covers and traditional material, but her latest album, 2022’s gorgeously reflective Spellbound, is – remarkably – her first all-original collection, comprising settings of poetry she’s written over the years.
“Ethereally lovely... her voice still as pure as mountain air” (The Guardian)
