We are very pleased to announce our first ever textile exhibition in the Project Ability gallery!
For this exhibition we invited a select few artists to make new work. We have a wonderful mix of exhibitors, including Doreen Kay and Cameron Morgan, who are both long-time Project Ability artists. Eleanor Coutts is a textile artist working in Shetland, who we met earlier in 2022, through a project she and Cameron worked on together. Tzipporah Johnston is a neurodivergent textile based artist working in Edinburgh, whose work we have admired for some time. We also invited a small group of artists from our lovely friends over in Edinburgh at the Garvald studios.
There is a playful mix of work going on in this exhibition. From Tzipporah Johnston’s exquisitely created 3-dimensional textile works featuring eyes peering out at you from within glass domes, to the more traditional embroidery which hangs on the walls. Doreen Kay’s cats and birds have been lovingly stitched onto felt and canvas and show the softer side of a textile practice. Cameron Morgan’s style comes through marvellously in his embroidered artworks; ranging from birds and crustaceans and crossing over to many loved film and music stars such as Elvis, Laurel and Hardy, Batman and Robin and Wonder Woman!
This textile exhibition is a delightful feast for the eyes and will show our audiences several different techniques and styles for working with embroidery, thread and needle.
Exhibiting artists: Eleanor Coutts, Chloe Ewans, Tzipporah Johnston, Doreen Kay, Leanne McIntyre, Katrina McLaughlin, Cameron Morgan, Louise Robertson, Stuart Robertson, Callum Smith.
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
