This is a free, public science talk. The talk starts at 7pm and finishes at 8pm on Wednesday 8th March 2023. Free refreshments will be available before the talk from 6:30pm.
The talk will take place at the University of Glasgow, G12 8QQ, in lecture theatre 222 in the Kelvin Building (School of Physics & Astronomy). This talk is aimed at high school children age and above.
‘Alice in Quantum Wonderland’ by Dr Adetunmise Dada
Quantum physics describes a physical universe that can be very different from what is consistent with our everyday experiences and intuition. Are these counterintuitive phenomena mere fascinations, or can they be somewhat harnessed to create disruptive new technology? In this talk, we will introduce and illustrate some of the basic concepts of quantum physics and conventional (or ‘classical’) cryptography. Using an illustration in which Alice seeks to send a secret message to a friend, we will then highlight a loophole in classical cryptography and how quantum ‘magic’ comes to the rescue!
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
