EP launch and first live show for Scottish band January Sixteen following their debut single Rats. Already compared to Ride, The Pixies and early Foo Fighters, January Sixteen have a diverse songbook and range of influences and are as comfortable with a harmonica as they are with a fuzz pedal.
"perfectly-pitched slice of fuzz-laden rock that bring heroes in the vein of Pixies, Quicksand and early Foo Fighters to mind" - Charlie Ashcroft
"part-Vaselines, part-Nirvana, with a strong flavour of the melodic indie gems that Scotland has a long pedigree in producing... an engaging and promising debut" - Analogue Trash
Also on the bill are The Cult Of Free Love, an international musical collective which has its roots in the mystical landscape of North Wales.
The band have 2 albums to their name as well as several releases on a variety of well-regarded European labels. They also host their own ‘Love In’ residency in London.
Their music has received comparisons to the likes of Primal Scream, Andrew Weatherall, New Order, The Orb, Kraftwerk, The Thievery Corporation, The Chemical Brothers, The Future Sound of London, Warp Records and Stranger Things.
“The Cult of Free Love follow 2016’s ‘Love Revolution’ album with another throbbing melting pot of electronic beats, vapour trail vocals and exotic Eastern elements.” - Electronic Sounds
“The Cult of Free Love’s sonic rainbow manages to straddle subterranean noise, Eastern mysticism and electronic freak pop. Hiding behind anonymity there’s something well worth investigating here.” - Record Collector
And from Edinburgh once described as the ‘love child of Jeffrey Lewis and Kt Tunstall’ Sarah Gallagher does not conform to any specific genre, instead taking inspiration from indie folk, anti-folk, pop and a bit of punk too.
She is a silver tongued story teller with honest lyrics written from esoteric but relatable view points. Having toured the open mic scene in Edinburgh, she grew a cult following amongst locals, who responded to her humour, stage presence and original writing. Sarah’s lyrics have a core of heart and substance and are shared through melodic harmonies deliberately disrupted by controlled anarchy.
Alongside her ‘fiddle-infused, toe tapping, clattering, storytelling band’ comprised of Scottish musicians, she released her debut Ep AWOL this year.
