Glasgow Swing Dance are delighted to announce that Ali Affleck is joining us for our next live band night! She brings with her some International friends to form an old time jazz and blues superband for their debut performance in Scotland!
Join us for a night of live music and dancing in the West End of Glasgow on the 8th November!
Location: Glasgow University Union, Drawing Room
6:45pm: Doors open
7pm-7:45pm: All-Levels Lindy Hop class
7:45pm: Social and live band
Tickets are £14 on the door - cash or card accepted. Advance tickets (£12pp) are available to purchase during our usual Wednesday classes over the next 3 weeks.
We use gender neutral language in our classes to teach lead and follow roles. Everyone welcome regardless of experience level.
Thinking about coming along but not quite sure what to expect? Check out our FAQs:
* What do I wear?
- Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in - dress up fancy if you like but casual clothing is also welcome.
* What shoes should I wear?
- We recommend comfortable flat shoes with little to no heel that are not too grippy (so you can spin!).
* I've never danced before - can I still come along?
- Everyone is welcome to come and join the fun! If you want to learn, we have an all-levels class in Lindy Hop starting at 7pm which is suitable for complete beginners (or if you're feeling rusty and want to brush up on your steps!)
* Do I need a dance partner?
- No dance partner needed but feel free to bring your friends/enemies/casual acquaintances! We will have partner rotation during class so you do not need to dance with the same partner (although if you would rather dance with the same partner then that is fine!).
* Is there somewhere to buy a drink?
- There is a bar downstairs in the GUU where you can buy drinks and bring them up or refill your water bottle.
* How much is a ticket?
- Tickets are £14pp on the door (£12pp advance). The ticket covers the entire night, and includes the Lindy Hop class as well as the social dancing and live music! Advance tickets (£12pp) are available to purchase during our usual Wednesday classes over the next 3 weeks.
* Can I pay by card?
- Yes you can! We accept cash or card payments on the door. The nearest cash machine is on the corner of Bank Street and Gibson Street by the convenience store.
* How do I get to the GUU?
- The nearest subway station is Kelvinbridge. There is a bus stop just outside the University Union where you can catch the number 4, 4A, and 15 buses. There are non-permit holder car parking spaces on Gibson Street and Southpark Avenue that is free after 6pm.
Please message us if you have any other questions!
Covid notes:
- We do not require proof of a negative lateral flow test on entry, or evidence of Covid vaccination.
- Mask wearing is optional
- Hand sanitiser will be available at the door for everyone to use if they wish
- The windows will be kept open for good ventilation
We ask you to not attend the class and social if:
- You are suffering from Covid symptoms
- You are a close contact of someone who has recently tested positive
See you on the dancefloor!
