Sam says that acrylic is the most user-friendly and versatile paint currently available. It can involve watercolour-style translucent washes of colour or thick textured strokes, reminiscent of oils. Modern technology means that acrylics now have the quality and richness to rival traditional painting media; they are non-toxic, water soluble, quick drying and a pleasure to work with.
This course is suitable for beginners and improvers.
Students will be taught how to use acrylic paint through the following exercises:
A demonstration of painting the figure with a monochromatic tonal range;
An introduction to blocking in and use of different brushes and techniques.
We will begin with some short warm-up exercises on paper followed by longer studies in colour or continue to use black and white.
What you will learn:
Understanding methods of drawing the figure
How to use tone, erasure, blocking in
Techniques for painting the head and form
Understanding of how light works in a painting
How to measure the figure anatomically
Understanding of compositional techniques
