An organ recital with a swingin' twist! Collaborating from a love of Jazz music; local musicians Jack Heavenor, Matthew McIlree & Duncan Kremer will be presenting a dual-programmed concert on Saturday 11th May. Starting with an Organ recital performed by Matthew McIlree, followed by a selection of timeless crooner classics performed by the Jack Heavenor Trio; there'll be something for music lovers of all generations to enjoy.
Matthew McIlree is a graduate piano and organ scholar from the University of St Andrews. Prior to this, he studied at the Music School of Douglas Academy, after being awarded a place in 2012; and in 2018 he gained a Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in piano performance, with distinction. He has been a multiple prize winner at both the Glasgow and Inverclyde music festivals , including twice winning the Glasgow Society of Organists' Trophy at the Glasgow open organ class; and three times winning the top piano award, as well the 2016 overall prize, in Inverclyde.
Bassist Duncan Kremer is a lifelong instrumentalist from the Highlands. Displaying a passion for music early, he taught himself drums, piano and bass by the age of 13 and developed a strong musical ear in the process. He spent two years playing with the University of St Andrews Scholarship Jazz Ensemble under the guidance of Richard Michael BEM, as well as four years playing in the University's big band. Duncan is now based in Glasgow, soon to complete an MA in jazz at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
From singing in the church choir as a treble many years ago to recently completing 2 music outreach tours of Japan; Jack Heavenor has followed his passion for music diligently over the years and has found pleasure in capturing the essence of songs from the 1920s to 1940s swing era. With a formal background in music, learning clarinet at Hutchesons' Grammar School, to later becoming self-taught as a Jazz improviser; Jack found his calling as a singer during his time in Shanghai in 2016 where he became a frequent guest during the Sunday Sessions at the House of Blues & Jazz. Since then, he's become recognised for his vast repertoire of Jazz & Swing standards; alongside his charismatic delivery & enthusiasm for the genre.
All donations will be going to the church's own lighting fund.
