The tale of Sweeney, the mad and exiled king, has enchanted storytellers for a milenium, and in this hugely ambitious multilingual work, "Sweeney – An Intertonguing", poet Rody Gorman recasts the medieval Irish text "Buile Shuibhne" – ‘The Frenzy of Sweeney’ – into English, Manx and Scottish Gaelic with intertonguing.
Rody Gorman is a Gaelic and Irish poet living and working in the Isle of Skye. He has many collections to his name, including "Lorg Eile / Final Call" (Francis Boutle Publishers, 2022) and "Sa Chnoc" (CLÀR, 2023).
Meg Bateman is a Gaelic poet, academic and storyteller and teaches at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig. She has a keen interest in Celtic myth and medieval poetry.
This event will be in Gaelic and English, with readings in Irish and Manx.
