This hands-on session is perfect for both beginners and experienced artists looking to refine their skills. In this workshop, you'll receive two substrates to work on, giving you the opportunity to experiment and perfect your techniques while working from a beautifully arranged lemon-themed still life.
Techniques Covered:
The workshop is structured into three stages, each building on the last to guide you through the process of creating a compelling oil painting:
Tonal Underpainting: Learn the importance of starting with a tonal underpainting on a mid-tone ground. This foundational stage sets the stage for depth and contrast in your work.
Fat on Lean: Discover the art of applying thicker, textured paint to highlight colour and texture. This stage will teach you how to layer paint effectively, adding richness and dimension to your piece.
Glazing: In the final stage, you'll use mediums such as liquid linseed oil, and turpentine to apply semi-transparent or transparent layers over the thick paint. Glazing allows you to darken shadows, enhance highlights, and add subtle refinements to your painting, bringing it to life with depth and luminosity.
This workshop offers a comprehensive exploration of oil painting techniques, with a focus on hands-on practice under the guidance of an experienced tutor. Whether you're aiming to develop your skills or simply enjoy a creative day out, this session will provide you with valuable insights and the satisfaction of completing your own still life masterpiece.
